WHY I'M RADIO READY
Being a DJ has been far more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. From DJ’ing as a hobby to becoming a full-time DJ, I have been able to experience a world many DJ’s only dream of. My presence has move crowds of hundreds to recent crowds of thousands. I’ve been on stage with many artists and have witnessed the growth of many DJ’s, including myself. This industry is highly competitive; however, my addition to this industry isn’t about the fame or other luxuries associated with a high profile careers. It is about happiness. It’s about opportunity. It’s about making it to the top and being able to mentor other DJ’s with a passion. It’s not about focusing on who has already made it, but it is about finding the raw and hungry talent out there that the industry sometimes forgets exists. It’s about staying true and being loyal to the road to success many artists take but only a few find, and turning that road into a sense of self-fulfillment way beyond any money can buy. It’s about a chance to wake up in the morning and do what I love to do. Sometimes I sit back at night when I can’t sleep and wonder if those from times past even knew that the simple beating of the hands on drums would amount to such a diverse world of music. Music is extremely therapeutic. It’s an escape for some; for many, it is finding that inner peace in verses that they can relate to. I love to bring this music to people. There is a surge of energy I get when I DJ. It’s a sense of purpose, and I go to sleep knowing I was responsible for providing people an escape and a way to feel connected to the world.
Why am I radio ready? Why not? Who is to really say when one is “ready?” Readiness may not be about age, experience or style. Readiness may simply be about desire, hunger, values and determination. DJ’s are born with a certain amount of talent. The rest of a radio DJ’s personality is developed through age, experience and the attainment of their own style. However, desire, hunger, values, respect and determination are character attributes only possessed by some in this industry. I want to add to that subculture, and I want to begin to multiply it by many. My experience is plentiful. From DJ’s for St. John’s University events to my presence on St. John’s University radio and from DJ’s club and boat parties to weddings and special occasions, I’ve been able to adapt and cater to each audience and become a different person each time. I’ve been able to adjust my style and appreciate each unique environment around me. In addition, my attention to detail as well as my strong vocal presence will give me an edge in tackling this industry. I understand the slow start associated with such a career, and I’m willing to climb that long ladder with confidence and a passion to learn, succeed and more importantly share that knowledge with talent and careers yet to surface. My creative mind will also allow me to conquer many issues in today’s society that have yet to be faced by DJ’s and artists alike. My main focus is to highlight talent. Whether it is writing, singing, dancing, poetry, freestyling or DJ’ing, it is important to know that these many God-given talents can be successfully lived without fame and fortune, but with a sense of self-fulfillment.
